And for me personally, it carried a deeper meaning: my wife, Nikki, watched me speak live for the very first time.

Day One: Inspiration, Gratitude, and Groundwork
Walking into Mortgage Con felt like stepping onto a movie set—because technically, we were. A massive sound stage at Universal Studios transformed into a venue full of energy, anticipation, and industry leaders ready to pour into the room.
Barry Habib kicked things off, and although I had to step away before his keynote, I was able to thank him personally. Back in 2005, when I first entered the mortgage business, it was Barry’s lessons and market insights that gave me my edge. His teachings helped me excel in the financial services world long before I ever stepped onto a stage.
That full-circle moment mattered. Gratitude matters. Recognizing the people who shaped you matters.
Conversations, Preparation, and a Meaningful Connection
Throughout the day, I caught up with incredible leaders, reconnected with peers, and shared stories—personal ones.
One moment stood out. A speaker and I exchanged stories about our tattoos. His represented his children. Mine represented my son, CJ, who passed away in 2020.
I told him, “He’s always watching. When I go to make a bad decision, I stop. Because he’s watching.”
Those moments—the real ones—are why I love events like this. There is power in connection. There is healing in conversation. And there is strength in telling the truth about the things that shaped us.
The Calm Before the Stage: Pressure Meets Purpose
Tomorrow was my day to speak.
So that night, I stepped away, put on my AirPods, and cleared my mind. I visualized the message. I felt it. I refined it. Not a script—just an outline. A heartbeat. A direction.
Over the years, I stopped trying to memorize speeches. Now, I speak from the chest—from truth, not perfection. A few note cards. A clear purpose. And a commitment to impact at least one person.
